There was a moment in this comic when the crew first shows up at the market, and I couldn’t help but think of Star Wars. It’s not a direct comparison and I hope I don’t offend anyone, but Brandon Graham and company have created a world with such depth, diversity, history, and utter strangeness, that I can’t help but draw the comparison, especially now that Old Man Prophet has a supporting cast to add their own unique flavors to the book. It is really working for me. I love the red-faced Hiyonhoiagn and Jaxson. The reinvention of Die Hard is genius. This book has been hinting and a direction, and it is starting to come into focus.

The artwork is top notch, with beautiful colors that are used with purpose, and expressions and body language that turn the rough looking pages into storytelling sophistication. Panel usage is smart and creative. I loved the look of the backup story too, with all that orange on blue. Beautiful.

This issue feels like it us part of a bigger story and is the first time we see the crew of the Starship Insula Tergum together. Seeds for future issues are laid, laughs are shared, and Empire Knives are drawn. Every issue has been great and this one is no different.

  1. Funny, this was my least favorite issue of the series so far. I missed the strangeness and one-off quality of the first 7 or so issues. This book feels like it’s been in a holding pattern for the last 2-3 months and I’m hoping it starts to move again soon or it’ll either be cancelled or I’ll have dropped it before then. With Glory’s final issue coming out in March, I wonder what fate has in store for Prophet?
