The Marvel family sure have taken a beating lately by the DC crew. No no, not the comic company, I mean the Marvel family. So far their entire purpose for the DCU is in question. The wizard Shazam got pissed off; took away Billy and Mary’s powers, and turned Black Adam and Isis into stone. So god knows what DC has in store for the family later down the line, but they haven’t forgot one person in the Marvel family. See, none of the family is dead except for one, and we haven’t seen him since 52. Now it is time for Osiris’s fate to be sealed.

I gotta say that this comic did get to me in a bunch of different ways. Osiris was never that great of a character to me during 52. But here Eric Wallace is able to make him the hero he should’ve been, even if he is a Black Lantern. I can’t explain the science of why Osiris is not like the other BL’s, nor did Wallace try to explain. But to see him resist Nekron’s urges really was interesting to read. Then we have Osiris fight an ‘old’ friend (also a BL) and then it gets really entertaining. Wallace just has a good knack of making these two, otherwise C-D level heroes, into interesting characters. It doesn’t bring a lot to the table mind you, it quickly ends as it starts like more of these BN one shots. But somehow Wallace was able to make this work in a way where, even if this wasn’t a BN tie in it would’ve been a good issue.

Don Kramer is a pro but this is the first time I’ve ever seen his work in full view. I like his style when it comes to showing us these dead corpse or in people in general. He also has a knack for detail like the little water drops from a lake or these lighting effects. What also works for me is the coloring and inking for this. I believe they are the same people who work for Azrael and these very colorful style works well for this. Bright yellow’s, orange’s, black’s, and even green’s come into play. They definitely make the Black Lantern view work with everyone being highlighted clearly. These three artists work well together and I wonder if they ever done work before as a team. Cause I would pick a comic up if they were all together in one title.

This came as a complete surprise for me both as a tie in and as an individual story. Hell this works even if it isn’t a BN story. Eric Wallace brings back a character, for a split second, that wasn’t fun in his original outing but makes him work here. Osiris might not have been the most respected character in the Captain Marvel family, but here he turns out to be just like any of the members. A hero.
