Dark Avengers #8

I really wanted to like this crossover, and the first couple issues definitely got me excited.  But I've been saying all along, "It's going to depend on where it's heading" and, I dunno.  At this point I'm frustrated as to why so much information has been withheld from the readers as it goes along, apparently in the service of a "surprise" ending that I saw coming miles away.  So because the writer doesn't want to reveal too much of the plan, we're reduced to watching a lot of incoherent action scenes while Cyclops keeps saying 'wait and see.'  Pretty much none of the interesting character dynamics set up in the first couple issues have been followed through on.  Cyclops is driving the action but we're never shown or told how he feels about anything -- or how anybody else does, for that matter.  The intereseting tension that was set up between Cyclops and Emma throughout this run has apparently disappeared and I don't really expect any followup. It's always possible that the last issue will be a dynamite ending that makes everything that's happened worthwhile, but right now I have no clue why I was asked to read this.

Except for Emma smashing Dakken's head into the pavement, that was pretty cool.
