Once again, my top of the stack book maintains its rightful place on the top of the stack. Every time this comes out, there is nothing I am more excited for. This issue briefly explored Kevin Kho’s OCD, which I think is a great touch, since Brother Eye’s control over him runs counterpoint to those compulsions. I also just like little character quirks like that. I love the big, crazy ideas abounding in this book. Bio-Gators. Freaking Bio-Gators. Cybernetic alligators that grow from little pods when dropped in water. I’d say I want more insane ideas like that in modern comics, but I really don’t. This book is special. This is my undisputed champion of week one books. This is the book that challenges modern comic book convention, throws out all the rules of the past 30 years, and does whatever the hell it bloody well pleases. It doesn’t conform. OMAC is the kid in the back of the room with the bright ass blue mohawk rocking out while every other kid in the class is trying to look the same. This book spits in the face of convention, and rides off on its motorcycle with a pack of smokes rolled up in its sleeve while the romantic interest watches wistfully. This is John Bender showing Claire Standish a different side of life. This is sneaking off to a Kiss concert when you’ve got stuffy evangelical parents. This is the Ramones not being able to play worth a shit and changing all the rules anyway. This is damn awesome comics, and I’m glad it’s here.
