One of the few tie-in’s that were actually good; here we have the 3rd trade of NOVA. Yes the loveable sci-fi series by Abnett and Lanning that, just like Geoff Johns and Peter Tomasi on Green Lantern/Corps, have provided nothing but fun since the series has started.

What makes this tie-in so good from some of the rest is just that AnL didnt focus too much on the Invasion itself. Sounds weird, but the Skrulls are mainly in the background while the two writers focus more on the overal storyline of Richard Rider. It seems NOVA is one of those titles, like X-Factor, that gets pulled into big events. It came off the heels of Annhiliation, had half an issue covered on Civil War, and now it got forced to the Invasion. Normally titles like that get hurt for this blantet attempt to cash into events to make people buy every title associated with it. But not NOVA, oh no the creators one-up themselves by focusing more on the character’s story more then the actual event. So what we have is a great mix of Skrull bashing, Darkhawk special guest starring, and some more twist and turns that you would come to expect in this series.

But let me also point out that this trade has possible one of the greatest cosmic stories of all time. The Galactus/Silver Surfer arc might’ve been the best arc AnL has ever written. It harkens back to some of the hey-days of 70’s cosmic storylines and it doesnt hurt that Alves draws the greatest looking Surfer and Galactus around. If your wondering why NOVA is such a great title in general then you should pick this trade up. It might be the 3rd volume but that doesnt mean you cant just pick it right up and get in on the action!
