As the first issue of a new story arc, this comic does essentially what the reader would expect it to do. It provides a lot of exposition, introduces the villain and some supporting cast members, and suggests some mysteries that must be solved. All of the elements DnA have introduced in this issue seem very promising. DnA have remade the character of Nova. The next logical step is to remake his rogues gallery, so I hope they can reinvigorate the concept of the Sphinx. It looks like Abnett and Lanning have ambitions of turning him into a threat on a par with some of the Marvel Universe’s major baddies. The art from Divito is, as I have come to expect, very nice. Divito does his usual great job with anatomy, and DnA give him the opportunity to create some impressive splash pages. By the way, I really like the cover to this issue by Brandon Peterson. It has one of those classic villain poses with the muscle bound Sphinx looking imposing as he manipulates energy between his hands. The reflection of the Sphinx’ hands in his shiny costume is a nice touch.
Art: 5 - Excellent
