“Jaw-Droppingly Cool”-Anit it Cool News

I’ve been seeing this all over the title for weeks now. In the solicts, in the previews, and not it’s on the cover of this issue. I think the early issues does deserve the praise it gets, which leads me to think how old this quote is. Cause if someone at Anit it Cool News reads Nova just as long as I have; he or she would know it’s not as cool as it used to be. This series is a shell of its former self, it’s not cool anymore it’s downright boring.

Take in point with this issue, my god it was boring. Mindless One’s are cool creatures and they have a history with the Marvel universe. But Abnett and Lanning has made a fight with them, and even a smarter creature, just a chore to read. This issue was so by the numbers that I am amazed that I am reading the same series that had a great arc about Galactus and Silver Surfer. You can read so easily on what’s going to happen next that not even the final page are shockers anymore. That’s when I knew this series was going downhill, when the ‘shocking’ last page isn’t shocking anymore. The banter between everyone is boring, the twists are easy to figure out, and it just reads like a bad 90’s comic. Plus this whole thing with StarStalker….am I suppose to care about this? Seriously, I know the Marvel universe is deep and full of history. But it’s like I’m suppose to know this character forever and the reveal for him makes me yawn. Pointless to have this character is your not even going to try to make him interesting.

Then you have the artwork by Kevin Sharpe; which is alright I guess. Nothing really special to say about it really, it’s just there. No cool moments or anything interesting coming out of a fight. It’s just a bland looking comic book which serves well with the bland writing. If Alves sticked with this series now then maybe I could live with buying this series. Instead we’re getting sub-par replacements and this is as boring as a comic as you can look at. Seriously, for a cosmic title it should look cool; instead it’s anything but that.

I was so hoping for this issue to get me back into the series. But now I just have to get away from this. Nova has been an amazing series for about two years and for awhile I found it to be better then Green Lantern at times. Now it’s just as bland and boring as a comic series your going to get. Abnett and Lanning just seems to have lost their touch, and it’s probably thanks in part to War of Kings. This title has been nothing but medicore since that event and now with this new Relam of Kings rearing it’s ugly head at the end of this…..Now if a perfect time to drop this title. Sorry to anyone who loves this series, believe me I am upset about doing this just as much as you reading it. But this is yet another Marvel title I have to drop, it’s just not worth it anymore.

  1. This two issue arc wasn’t great, but I don’t think it was horrible.  I suspect that DnA have some great adventures in store for Nova in the near future.
