In the Ultimate Spider-Man Universe, Brian Michael Bendis seamlessly weaves Peter Parker’s high school life with Spider-Man’s superheroing.  Oh, the life itself is rough, but Bendis makes both worlds fascinating enough that you want to know as much as you can about both aspects of his life.

Sadly, the same is not true of McKeever’s Nomad.  The issue starts and ends strong.  It’s got a great cover, and a hilarious title page with Leifeld’s Captain Titsmerica watching Liefeld’s anatomically questionable Nomad run away from him.

The main problem with this comic is that he high school aspect of this title is not believable.  It’s pretty obvious that the writer hasn’t been in high school recently, and that he doesn’t really remember what it was like.  What’s unfortunate is that high school is clearly the place where the main action of this story is supposed to happen.  I’m also not quite sure why they parallel Obama’s presidential platform to the potential villain, but I guess we’ll get to that when we get to that.

When Rikki Barnes is not in high school, she’s fascinating.  A girl whose world was stripped away, desperately wants to meet the closest thing in this worl to her mentor, Captain America.  It’s compelling, and well-drawn.  Way better than I expected from a comic that lists Jeph Loeb and Rob Liefeld as “Guiding Lights”.
