This annual is to mediocre as last week’s Dark Avengers annual was to excellent.  Bendid’d characters make half statements which are finished by other characters in a forced-realistic way.  And Mayhew’s art is reminiscent of the worst Olivetti art (and I actually enjoy Olivetti here and there).  This issue really felt like “Oh, shit we forgot to resolve that Hawkeye going to the media storyline from a few months ago.   Uhhh, lte’s throw some Avenger chicks at it, and it will all sort itself out.  Go Team Bendis!”

  1. That latter assessment seems a little unfair. Bendis has been throwing out all these plot threads between Dark Avengers, New Avengers and other assorted books, and what we’re now seeing are all of those plot threads finally coming down. I mean if this was him "forgetting" to resolve something that happened two months ago, what was the Dark AVengers annual? I see this and that as two elements that are starting to lead into the final act (Siege).

  2. @daccampo: That’s just how it felt to me.  Some of his plot threads have seemed really tight, with excellent dialog and writing, and thiss isue felt really really mediocre.  It probably isn’t a lst minute idea, that’s just how it read to me.
