I am very sad that the first New Avengers arc appears to be centered around Sorcerer Supreminess.  While I respect that Bendis is currently focusing one team on the science portion of the Marvel U (Avengers vs. Kang w/time-travel), one on the mythological portion (Avengers Prime in Asgard), and this one in the magical realm, I’m just not a fan of it.  And I’m sad that the book with the lineup I’m most intrigued by is going to be involved in a story I really don’t care about.

There’s a lot to like in this issue.  How Steve Rogers hands the reigns over to Luke Cage was very well done.  And the inclusion of Victoria Hand lends itself to some potentially fantastic stories, I just don’t care about they Eye of OhMyGoddo, or anyone who wields it.

I’m hoping this will be a short arc, so I can jump back in soon.

  1. So who is on the team?

Victoria Hand is the lady who worked for Osborne?

  2.  SPOILER ALERT:

@Akamuu: Doesn’t the mention of  Victoria Hand in your review veer into spoiler territory?  It was specifically teased in the solicit.  Either way, I don’t care, but it might cheese other people off.  You might want to consider editing your review.

  3. No spoilers, huh?  Jerk.

  4. Never understood why fools would be so sensitive to spoilers but frequent a comic book websiste that specializes in breaking news, discussion and reviews.

No sympathy. Stay off the internet.

  5. I never said Victoria Hand was on the team, I said she’s in the book, which was in the teaser for this issue.  So, no, there are no spoilers here.

I may still be a jerk, though.  I don’t want to deny or confirm that, though, lest you think my personality is spoiled, too.

    *********Actual spoilers below************

@scorpionmasada: The team isn’t solidified yet, but it appears the team will be Cage, Jessica Drew, Ms. Marvel, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Iron Fist, Hawkeye, and Mockingbird, and that The Thing is a tease character that will only be around for a few issues.  That’s just a guess though.

  6. also @Scorpionmasada: Yes, Victoria Hand was Osborne’s second in command.  She of the dark hair and red bangs.

  7. Thanks for "spoiling." I like that lineup (still not down with the few characters on two Avengers teams though).

  8. @akamuu: Point taken.  No actual spoilers contained, until you actually spoiled.  Fair enough.

  9. By the way, I LOOOOVE that line-up.

  10. Victoria Hand was the highlight of the issue for me. Bendis could have easily thrown the character away after Dark Reign but he didn’t.

  11. Hey Everyone I’m extremely new to this. This is actually my first post so I’m popping my Cherry. Be Gentle

*Spoilers Waring For I Will Be Talking About The Line Up*

What is the point of having Spider-Man, Wolverine and Hawkeye on the team? Answer, so people will still be buying this book that enjoyed the team chemistry from the last issue. I mean to me, this really didn’t feel like a fresh new start. I really wish Spider-man, Wolverine and hawkeye weren’t on the team. If you still wanted your Wolverine feel maybe put Daken in there to set up a self redemption story line. Add She-Hulk (or any other super strength character) instead of Thing because The thing is already in the FF. Bring in Black Cat for some great team dynamics and Echo because she was already a New Avenger. I understand I could just drop the book and problem would be solved. But I love team books because of the chemistry between people. And writing team chemistry is a trait Bendis hold really well. What do you guys think? What should the New Avengers line up be?

  12. ********spoiley spoil spoil************

@jayredfield:I don’t think this is going to be the actual lineup.  I think this sorceror storyline is going to shake things up right away.  Note that The Thing didn’t say he would join the avengers, he was thinking about it when they were attacked.  I suspect he will join them for this adventure and then decide to throw the blue and white uniform back on, and take off.  Apart from that, I personally don’t care who the lineup is, as long as the book is good.  But I think a lot of your suggestions sound like cool ideas.
