CB Celuski offers a promising opening to the second collection of short stories from the Nation X storyline.  Jubilee writes and edits a letter to Logan, while being visited by The Young X-Men.  While the mutant vs former-mutant story is a pretty played out trope since Decimation, the act of constantly rewriting the letter in her head makes this story oddly moving.

Sadly, the book goes all downhill from there.  Barber’s Quentin Quire vs. Martha Johannson story is by-the-numbers and undoes itself so quickly, I’m not sure why they bothered telling the story at all.  And Tim Fish is best known for his superficial, poorly written Gay slash comics, so it’s not surprising that he writes a flat, superficially pro-Queer story about Northstar.  Really, he just tells the same “gay relationships are so hard” stories he always tells, but this time it involves a superhero.  Becky Cloonan’s Gambit story is a little better story-wise (and a thousandfold better from an art standpoint), but with only eight pages to tell her story, she spent either too much or too little time in Gambit’s head, and it simultaneously left me wanting more and less.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 3 - Good
