Namor: The First Mutant issue 3 still suffers from some same problems the last two issues had, lack of character development, and art inconsistencies, but they are starting to matter less, because I’m picking up on the Namor that Stuart Moore is throwing down.
Namor and his kingdom of new atlintians are still at war with the aqueos, but this issue we learn that there is a magical cure to defeat them, but it comes at great cost. Namor will have to attack the Aqueos in there underwater kingdom and he will have to sacrifice something pretty BIG.
Ariel Olivetti’s art has really grown on me, maybe because the first couple of pages were drawn by Fernando Blanco in a very different style. Although I did like the way the handled the art divide by placing all of Blanco’s stuff indoors and Olivetti’s in the open ocean.
Stuart Moore’s characterization is very similar to the way Matt Fraction handled Namor is the way that Namor is very royal. Pompous, controlling, and unwavering as the Atlantian King. Moore is exposing us to other side of this king, the side where Namor is willing to sacrifice for his people, the side where he hurts because his people hurt. Namor is one of comics oldest and richest characters and First Mutant is blazing any new trails the telling of his story, but it is a solid book true to the King of Atlantis.
