I've liked this series for a long time. The Reed/Lopestri team was outstanding and produced a fun, gorgeous, meaningful book. Unfortunately, Lopestri has moved on to Wonder Woman, and I'm almost tempted to follow him there. Andre Coelho is doing competent work, but it doesn't have the same punch. As for the storyline, I haven't been crazy about the Skrull storyline, but at least in the last issue we got to see Carol Danvers outsmart the Skrulls, and we found out that her sometimes-boyfriend William Wagner is really a Kree spy sent to report back on the Skrulls infiltration.
But in this issue, Ms. Marvel and her Lightning Storm team spend the whole issue trying to track down and rescue William, and I can't help but wonder why. Aren't there bigger fish (that is, Skrulls) to fry? Then the romantic interest between Carol and Simon is really uninteresting to me. I mean, the kiss they had - what was it? - last summer? That was a nice piece but mainly because it set up tension against the relationship between Carol and William. But when she runs into Simon's arms at the end of this issue, it seems like a defeat. One nice thing about this issue is that we got some insight into Carol's thoughts about the events of the last year or so. That was revealing.
Two final thoughts about this series:
1) At the beginning of last issue there was an excellent piece of a story about Agent Sum in Fuedal China, and I really would like to see more about him and his history.
2) The Greg land covers. These have been a bane to this book, because it makes it look like a cheesecake factory, when in fact there's really a lot more to it. It's not only been a character study of Carol Danvers, but it's turned into a bit of an ensemble title with the members of Lightning Storm (and a few others). That said, I can't help but appreciate the cover this month. It's pretty badass. But Land has had his run. Please, please, please, Marvel, let the regular artist do the covers for this book.

Won’t she be surprised to learn Wonder Man’s a Skrull!?
Yeah, I agree. I think that’s pretty likely.
