I am going to admit something. I stopped reading this comic after issue 2. But when I saw the title in this week’s pulls I got upset. Was not sure why, so I spent $2.99 to explore why. It seems moot as he is cancelling at the end of issue 8, but wanted to examine why I could not connect.

The reason distilled is this. It is a book about the World’s 3rd smartest man or whatever, and it is a stupid book. Now please do not think I am calling the creative team stupid. Not at all. But I am saying that if you want a smartly written, paced, conceptualized and contextualized book. This is not when you will find it.

I am a black man who is still of an era that gets excited when the black actor makes it all the way to the end of any film. Especially horror. I am bias like that, so I WANTED this book to succeed, but more importantly I want this book to be good.

What is it that would have made me feel better? Start small – give me quality banter… you know, West Wing style or something that makes me feel that this company with the most sophisticated computer system (that was just hacked into by a child) at least employs the smartest cats in the room. There is evidently stronger competency in a starter up that this corporation. If you do not know corporate life DO NOT ATTEMPT CORPORATE Dialogue.

PS – the smartest dialogue can not be.
“blah..blah…blah thanks Mr T”

Response from Mr T –
“Don’t call me that”

Concurrently the worst of the dialogue on THE SAME PAGE!!
“It what I call Fair Play”
haaa…I see what you did there…. clever.. yeah… clever.

Maybe I had one too many ‘iFanboy Make Comics’ mini-classes. But that is what I call lazy and uninspired scripting.

One more annoyance
If our protagonist is galavanting around being Hero and he is so intelligent, he must have a plan to account for his absence. You can not use the Bruce Wayne playing a ditz, Or my daddy built this company from the ground up and never appreciated my genius a la Tony Stark angle as he has built himself from the ground up in this no non-sense vein. So lets see the strategy at work.

You can see the talent behind the art but not the care. All the clothes look like from the 80s and 90s with it being baggy and everyone coming off looking disheveled

You remember when DC New 52 came out and all the books were just brimming with promise and you can see all the areas that the story opportunities could grow?

Not you Mt T. We saw this coming from issue 1. One more issue, and you will be placed out of everyone’s misery especially your own. Though on the plus side, I am interested in seeing how you will be handled in Earth-2 stories.

Story: 1 - Poor
Art: 2 - Average

  1. I was extremely excited about this series, but man did DC drop the ball on this one. At least the covers were good.
