My favorite DC titles are usually elseword tales like Superman: Red Son, or the tangentially DC universe stories like Simon Dark, which take place in the DCU, but don’t actually cross paths with them.  This story is somewhere inbetween those two categories.  It’s not in DC continuity.  It’s in a world without Batman, Superman, the JSA, or any other superbeings.  It’s also not really about the main superhero, but about the people around him.  So, in many ways, it’s more Astro City than Superman.

I really hope people start hopping on this title.  As Tomasi is just killing it with his fleshed out characters.  And Champagne and Snejberg do an excellent job at excentuating the moods in this tale.
