Well, that was better than I thought it would be.

Ok starting off I love mass effect, it is my favorite game on xbox even beating out Lost Odyssey and Halo. The comics however have been hit and miss for me. I never found them to be super interesting as they didn’t add as much to the world as I wanted, not like the books did.

This series is no different Yet at the same time it did what I thought was impossible….It made me sorta like James Vega. I really disliked this character but it really helped him in my eyes and the fact that it was written by his character writer helped.

That said the book suffers from the problems of the other mass effect books, average art, the pacing is a little off. The biggest flaw of this particular issue is action scene comes out of nowhere and takes up 6 pages that could have been used to continue character development

Overall the story was good, nothing special, and the art was average to good, again nothing standout. Solid book, Yet to a mass effect freak like me the nods to things that only fans would understand like Red Sand really give the book credit, Yet to a non-fan it would be confusing

In short: I liked the character development for James and really enjoyed the book but to a non-fan at 3.50 this is a easy pass.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 2 - Average

  1. Totally agree with your review. Although enjoyable (for a fan), this book had a few flaws that I didn’t realize until reading your review. Well, it’s not that I didn’t notice them while I was reading it. My biggest complaint was the typeface used for the dialogue. Yuck. Seeing someone else point out the flaws made me realize that I unconsciously gave this comic a pass. I figured that since it was tied to the game it wasn’t going to have the production value of a Batman, X-Men, etc. In hindsight makes me even more disappointed with this book because of the $3.50 price.

Still, I liked it and I’ll be buying the rest as they’re released.
