I love Sam Keith art. I am a fan of Lobo. This book is totally up my alley!

After seeing Ron’s choice of this as pick from a couple of weeks ago I decided to pick this up with a slow week. I must admit though, hearing that Ian Scott was writing this I was a bit worried about it. He is a very entertaining guy, in terms of seeing interviews and tv specials he’s done (I’m not a fan of his music). But is he a comic book writer? I wasn’t so sure on that…

Then I open up this book, and I was not worried about enjoying this. Every single page of this book from the writing to the amazing art had me hooked. It’s not the best story I’ve ever read mind you; but Scott has a good mindset for Lobo and anything he said was entertaining. I totally forgot about the plotline with the dolphins and him being a priest, so seeing that aspect of his life was cool to see. But it’s mainly Lobo drinking, fighting, and drunk fighting his way to hell. Not the best story, but good enough for a Lobo comic.

Did I mention I love Sam Keith’s art? Oh boy do I ever! Every single page of this was amazing to look at. Just the detail on Lobo in general was amazing to look at. But Keith has this knack of being a bit abstract as well as detailed. Sometimes there are empty panels just to showcase one character, other times he writes his own sound effects instead of a letterer. I’m probably not doing the man justice when I review artwork; but trust me when I say: This is definitely one of the better looking comics to come out this year.

It is a bit puzzling to me though why this wasn’t released as a single trade. Kinda like what DC did with Azzarello’s Joker story from earlier. Either way, this was a fun comic and I cannot wait to see where Scott/Keith takes Lobo after meeting Lucifer himself. It will be bloody that’s for sure.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
