It’s a sad day when a superhero gets so old that his powers begin to fade, or the doctor tells him he’s going to die.  Marvel explores the action side of this story in Kirkman’s Destroyer.  DC goes the philosophical route with The Last Days Of Animal Man.  Both angles are interesting.  If you’d asked me which I’d prefer, I’d say the philosophical side.  But The Last Days Of Animal Man has not hooked me in thus far. 

Batista’s art does a great job of evoking the art style of Morrison’s Animal Man run without being derivative.  And Conway achieves the same thing with his writing.  But reminiscent (and, again, not derivative) of great is merely good, and not great.
