Sex, drugs, and Greek mythology. What more could you want?

After years out of print, Vertigo has finally re-released Grant Morrison and Philip Bond’s Kill Your Boyfriend. And it was worth the wait! This has all the hallmarks of good Morrison: a well-constructed plot, colorful characters, and a shot of metafiction straight to the arm.

Kill Your Boyfriend definitely reads like mid-90’s Morrison, but, just like his The Invisibles, that doesn’t mean it feels dated. This is just his blue period, so-to-speak.

Who should read this? Well, if you ask me, everyone – but I’m a bit of a Morrison apologist, so take that into consideration. Still, any fan of Morrison’s work, past or present, should definitely give this a go. Even if you’ve never read anything by Morrison, but are just in the mood for something unique that will smack you in the face and ask “what do you think of all this?!?” (in a Scottish brogue, no less!), then this is the book for you.

And no whining about the $5.99 price tag. It’s 56 pages of story and an afterword by Morrison! Considering the $2.99 we shell out for 22 pages of story these days (if we’re lucky!), Kill Your Boyfriend is a steal!

Story: 5 - Excellent
