Before we get to the book, just feast your eyes on that goddam gorgeous cover. The assembled JSA racing to save the day in sepia tones. If the Justice Society ever make it back into the New 52, I want Darwyn Cooke drawing them. Since the departure of Geoff Johns, the JSA's stories haven't been as engaging as they used to be. But as the DCU-as-we-know-it ends next week, there is something fitting, something poetic about the finale of this week's JSA book. Alan Scott, one of the oldest & longest serving heroes in DC continuity dies defeating his enemy, and Jay Garrick mourns the loss of his friend and keeps on fighting the good fight. It is a just and noble end for the book that encapsulates the spirit of the heroes that started it all. Jerry Ordway's art also harkens back to simpler times with a clean and slightly retro look. So good for you, JSA. Just like the heroes you commemorate, your glory days may have been behind you, but you kept on battling to the end.
