You had me at Eclipso.

I may have been a smidgen hyperbolic in my review of the previous issue of the Eclipso Rising story arc. Deep down I was hoping for Eclipso to win. I mean how cool would it be if quietly in the pages of JLA, while everyone was coming down with Flashpoint fever and pinching pennies for the new 52 #1’s, James Robinson destroyed the DCU? How punk rock?!

Alas, the usual good triumphing over evil thing happened (if this is a Spoiler, then welcome to comics. Hurry! read Starman). Yes, the heroes save the day but it and the recovery occurs all too quickly (we’re talking minutes!).

In the end these last two issues of JLA were a thrill ride. And like the end of any theme park ride the screaming subsides and it feels like it ended too soon,

Sampere’s pencils were strong. It wouldn’t surprise me to see his work in another event book in the future.

As we come to the end of the DCU as we know it JLA 59 is a reminder of what could have been if creators had more time to finish their stories.
