When I say that I wanted to like Justice League International, I do not mince words. I am a sucker for a book where teams come together just as much as anyone else, so the fact that they lost me on issue one is egregious. The concept is not startling. The U.N. wants a team that they can control to handle problems. They want the team to be multi-national and so they select heroes from Iceland, Russia, China, and Brazil just to name a few. The team forms, fights, and heads off to fight danger. To me, the inter-team fighting was two dimensional and pointless. Guy Gardner is a cocky, maverick, renegade...we all get it. I'm not sure if all of the formalities were meant to slowly introduce new readers that they are expecting to get from the New 52 to concepts and characters, but it surely lost me. The accents were written poorly and it just wasn't interesting. Lava creatures are not a compelling threat. Batman's inclusion was good, but not good enough to carry the rest of it. They only gave my guy, August General in Iron like 4 lines in the whole book. It was too busy accomplishing nothing.
