Justice League International #1 is not as good as Justice League #1 by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee, but it still is a damn fine example of a team book.

We’re introduced to the team mainly through Booster Gold who was chosen by the U.N. to lead the government sanctioned team. Like him, we discover a little of who everyone his and what they can do and it’s clear this is just the beginning of something bigger.

Humour is present in small doses, enough to make you smile if not laugh out loud. It’s a case of you like it or you don’t, and I liked it. It’s classic superhero storytelling, we get the team presented up, a situation comes up, they investigate and shit hits the fan and ends up with a cliffhanger. It could have been a bit better, especially in the character department as most of them are new faces to me (August General in Iron/Rocket Red, Godiva) but I guess in time we’ll get to know them better and they’ll be a bit more developped, there’s just so much you can put in a 22 pages book.

The art, while not bad, is not great and a little too minimalistic for my personnal tastes in a few panels…

Was this issue perfect? Far from it. Was it entertaining? Hell yes! This is, after all, a first issue.

I’ll give this one a chance to blow me away with a few more issues, if not, then it’ll go down the drain…
