Much as I enjoyed the Dove/Deadman romance in Brightest Day, it’s refreshing to see them in a relationship that’s about more than a mutual love of cheeseburgers. There’s some Dawson’s Creek-level shit going on in this book. Not that I’m complaining. By focusing the camera on them, this issue does far, far more than the first one at convincing me that these are damaged people, and if that’s the defining characteristic of this team — that and, you know, magic and whatever — then that’s a concept I can get behind.
