I was wondering where Joe the Barbarian had got to but upon reading this, it becomes quite clear. Sean Murphy produces some of the most spectacular art of his career. His panel composition creates an almost three dimensional effect, as though you’re staring through a window into another world. I know this sounds poncy, but it reminds me of Breugel in that while there are main characters to focus on, each minor or background character has a function/ action in the scene. This and a story by Morrison, which just when you think you know where it’s going, throws a curveball. I read this book three times back to back and was sucked back in each time. Amazing.
