ill never let go Jack… ill never let go…

I feel i Should start off my first review by telling the ifanboy community that i am a brand spanking new reader and will be giving my opinion as such. Joe the barbarian is the first non-super hero book i have bought. While i have looked at others in previews or skimmed through some at my local shop, I have yet to find a book that grabs my attention like this one. I have liked the story so far and have really loved the art, but this is the issue was the first time i emotionally connected in a real way to Morrison’s insulin shock induced adventure. From the first pages Morrison grabbed my attention with action, picking up right where issue 4 left off. the banter between the four characters didn’t slow me down or make the reading tedious, which happens to me from time to time when reading. The story really picks up once Joe and Jack are separated from the rest of their group. The slow but steady build up of exposition was nicely mirrored in Murphy’s art, bouncing from Joe’s diabetic Shangri La to his dilapidated yet familiar house seamlessly. But all the pretty art and dialogue meant nothing to me once i read the last few pages. Morrison not only managed to engage me as a comic book fan and lover of anything involving a fighting rodent, but also as someone who knows the feeling of helplessness and how it can turn your whole world upside down in a second. Cant wait for the next issues Im hooked!

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
