*sighs and covers head*

Why? Why does this have to be the end of Incredible Hercules? No I’m not upset over the finale of this arc, I’m talking about the poor quality it has given us. No title I have read in my life, so far at least, as gone down this slippery slope quicker then this. For two years, this has been consistantly one of the best Marvel books out there today. It was adventurous, funny, clever, and had some of the best artists to come on a title. Now for the past four, five months? Disaster.

I know I should be reviewing the issue as itself and not overall but…..How can I not? This issue was just boring to read and even the ‘exciting’ twists at the end of this can make me feel excited for the future. The art is muddy and the characters just look down right ugly. No redeeming features about this comic at all. A boring end to a boring ‘finale’.

I say finale in quotes because it isn’t the end. We have a two issue mini to finish up the era of Hercules and then we have another mini series to showcase the new Prince of Power: Amadeus Cho. But I will not be apart of that ride. It just doesn’t seem worth the effort or agony to continue this new era. If this is how the grand champion of the Greek Mythology goes down, then what an insulting way to do it. He doesn’t even has a glorious way of dying, just like the end of this series:

It falls, goes unnotice, and dies alone. Fitting.

Story: 1 - Poor
Art: 1 - Poor

  1. I just finished reading this, and I honestly don’t see what is so offensively bad about this issue. The writing was quite alright, the art was servicable and certainly not horrendous. In fact, you said it yourself that this isn’t the final part of the story, and that it continues. If you really don’t understand the story, wouldn’t you want to stick around for the inevitable answers later on?

I also can’t see how you, among all people, have no emotional connection to the final scenes in this book, especially with Hercules’ character.

  2. Oh ye of little faith!  Athena is the goddess of wisdom.  Athena doesn’t want power for its own sake, and she is “daddy’s little girl” who will do whatever she must to safeguard Olympus and Zeus.  Athena is just getting all of her chess pieces in place, and I am interested to see what she has planned.

  3. @comicbookchris: If this is truly the ‘death’ of Hercules, it was a insulting way to kill him. He doesn’t die a hero, he doesn’t die being it good terms with Cho or anyone else. He gets betrayed and just gets left to die. That’s a horrible way to kill of a main character, especially after two years of building him up to be a great character.

I’m not willing to continue the story when it is, for me anyways, obvious that Pak/Lente packed it in with this arc.

  4. This is the JLA/Black Adam thing all over again. You’re not agreeing with the way that the story is going and didn’t "end" in the way you wanted it, so that is your reasoning for this being horrible. The problem with that argument is that you know this isn’t the absolute end! This story and all its plot points are continuing with the same creative team. What you’re doing is the equivalent of reading a good book that you’re enjoying, and then throwing it away when you get to the middle when something bad happens to the main character.

And Herc absolutly died a hero. And if you think that his death is set in stone, then you obviously forgot the "staying dead is a gamble" monolougle a few issues ago.

  5. @comicbookchris: I just have no reason to continue with this though. If these last five issues for me have been down right medicore, why would I wanna continue on? I knew full well where this story was headed thanks to the spoilers on the internet. So I tried to enjoy the story as the adventure of getting to the end…..The adventure was medicore and poorly written for me. So….I don’t know what else to say.

  6. You dont know whats going to happen. Yeah, Cho is going to become Athena’s new champion, but we knew that 10 issues ago, before the solicits came out. What’s going to happen BEYOND that? But that doesnt seem to be the core issue of why you’re crying foul over this issue, and it’s the same reason you were on a warpath over the recent JSA/Black Adam story…you’re not agreeing with the direction of the characters without knowing the grand sceme of things. You’ve become so possessive of these characters that when something happens that you dont agree with, you make the bad script writing call. Like Kathy Bates in Misery.

  7. comicBookchris’s analysis is accurate.

You don’t know how you really feel about this book. You throw mediocre and poorly together as descriptors.

    Which one is it?

This was a solid 4 star issue.
