“I only wised Hercules himself had worn e’en a thong. ‘T was not a view I relished.”
 – Thor, Incredible Hercules #136 recap page

Funny books( not funny-books) have a hard time in an industry trying so hard to sound mature and adult. Nobody wants to read them and when people do read something that makes them laugh, it is of the “unintentional” variety like Hulk or All-Star Batman, the so-bad-they’re-good comics. Incredible Hercules is not NOT one of those books, regardless of what the internet memes suggests. Its a clearly crafted story with equal parts comedy and Greek Mythology.

People are calling it the best single issue of this year. I don’t know about that, but the recap page itself  was more enjoyable then the past 3 years of Amazing Spider-man. The idea of Herc and Thor impersonating and fighting each other sounds cliche, but the execution is hilarious. Whats more hilarious though, is Hercules begging Kid Zeus for rain.

The art fits the tone of the book and is fantastic. They could have had a “one dude punching other” double-page spread, but instead you get a Bendisy wide panel layout of the fight, which itself could’ve given Frank Quietly a run for his money.

A brilliant and hilarious book that everybody should at least check out once.

Story: 5 - Excellent
