This is another book that, for some time now, has just kind of snuck up on me every time it appears on my stack. Good stuff every time but I'm not looking for it on the schedules with baited breath. This issue though, man, that's some great reading. Loved every page. It's one of those single issue character pieces, a transitional issue, much like the issue when Brubaker passed the baton about a year or so ago. Swiercynski resets the story here, by knocking down Danny Rand's corporation and putting his character in a place where he reevaluates himself and realises what is important in his life. Maybe we've seen it before, but maybe that's because there's something here that's extremely relateable. When Misty (one of my favourite characters in Marvel comics, btw) tells Danny she's pregnant, we are treated to what just seems like one of the sweetest, most honest scenes I've read in a while. Artist Foreman nails it perfectly. Then when Danny meets with Luke Cage and talks about the announcement again we get some great dialogue and beautiful interaction between the two old friends. First I questioned the fact that Danny was heading down the same path as Cage, but then I thought about it and realised how natural it was. These guys have been around for what 30-35 years now? People move on and develop, and a hell of a lot of them have kids, and it's an experience they have in common and they share the ups and downs with each other. This was, purely and simply, excellent writing and my hat's off to Swierczynski. I don't know where we're going from here with Iron Fist and all the rest of the cast, but if he has a hand in it we're in safe hands. Here's to the next phase!
