This ‘Wild Hunt’ was having such an amazing ride and then suddenly it stops to a halt. It’s like your in a line for the best roller coaster ever. You see people walk next to you saying how awesome this coaster was. Then your finally next in line and can’t wait to see how this coaster will be; then they shut it down due to maintenance problems.

That as a whole describes the pacing of this mini and I pray opening this book there is a very good reason for the hiatus. Sadly there isn’t; and this is still a very good looking comic and the story is very intriguing. Hellboy fights a big monster and the blood witch is about to go after Hellboy as well. Basically that’s the whole issue right here and we get a second feature of some bizarre mystery I couldn’t follow.

If my review seems lacking it’s just because….well it’s because the hitaus bug is still itching me. I know I’m beating a dead horse and I know I should try and enjoy this story. But I just can’t do it. I actually don’t care where this story is going at the moment. Maybe it’s because this is just the same old Hellboy issue but I think it’s just because Mignola dropped the ball. There is absolutely no reason for this hiatus and if he’s not going to explain why there was such a thing; then I guess I should assume he let Fegredo go on vaction. Then let him worry about the second half of the comic once he came back. Sorry for the disappointment guys, but this was disappointing on all costs.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. creators taking more time to put out a better product for the readers.  the pricks!

  2. @TNC – No offense, this is your review and you can write it any way you see fit, but are you reviewing this issue or the series in this review?  You state that the book is still solid, but then assign a low score.  There are people who rely on your reviews (and the other reviews on this site) to steer them in the right direction.  Are you sure this is the signal you want to send to someone who is considering grabbing the issues from this series?

I completely understand your frustration with the hiatus, but does that really affect the quality of the issue itself?

  3. @stuclach: As an issue by itself; it was the same old Hellboy. He fights a big monster and then finds a way around the problem. The art was really great and that’s why I gave that a higher score.

If I could say on a whole: Wild Hunt #1-4 is perfect Hellboy. It had a great story going and was really setting the bar for what is in store for the character. With this issue; it’s just a random set of events that makes what Hellboy readers like. I wasn’t joking when I said the hiatus was killing me. It set my expectations too low and for once; Mignola’s pace really let me down. Maybe I’ll like the next issue once I read all five straight. As it stand now; this was just a ho-hum issue with no reason for a hiatus.

  4. @TNC – Fair enough. Thank you for clarifying.

  5. Hmmm, it would have been better to not let the hiatus influence your score.  Granted it bugs when they do that, but think of it from the collected edition point of view.  I plan on picking this up when it’s collected, so it doesn’t matter to me that one issue was crazy late.  What matters is whether the actual issue itself was any good.

Still, I understand why it gets to you.  Just think you should learn to let go.  At least it wasn’t a 3 year wait, right?

  6. @drake: No your right about that. When this is collected as a whole, and when ifanboy has the trade up for pull, I’ll probably rate it highly overall. But the fact is that the hiatus did hurt my opinion of it for this particular issue. Maybe not for the rest of the mini, cause now it’s gonna be finished soon. Overall though this wasn’t that great of an issue to come back from a meaningless hitaus. That’s what really bugged me; that is was more medicore then amazing.
