This has been my first hell boy story I’ve read where Mike Mignola didn’t do that art, and I feel it suffered from his absence. Scott Hampton is a very talented artists but I felt the book lacked the vibe and atmosphere that Mignola provides. Also, some panels looked almost Roto-scoped from images and some of the character’s looked stiff and lifeless. Over all I liked the two part story but I feel like Hellboy just isnt as good when Mike Mignola isn’t doing the art, I feel i am justified in this when you look at the cover.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 2 - Average

  1. Mignola hasn’t done the art (except the covers) for years. The main story has been penciled by Duncan Fegredo for about 20 issues. I think Mignola does Hellboy best, but I like the different takes on the art, especially in these side stories.
