‘Now this is the type of Hellboy story I want’, I thought to myself while reading this.

‘Hellboy getting involved with a bunch of luchadores, fighting vampires? Sign me up!’. I continued, ‘what’s that? You have Richard Corben doing the art dutires? Why Mignola you must really love me!’

If there is one thing Corben can do is draw exciting, and sometimes pants wetting, creatures for Hellboy to fight. I mean there is a vampire turkey in this! How can you go wrong? Corben can also set the mood pretty well too. When we get the panels of the vampires wiping out the town, it really is genuinely terrifying. Then he comes back at you with Hellboy parting with wrestlers, or getting into a wrestling match with demons, and it brings in a certain air of exciting while reading this.

This might not be the best Hellboy story Mike Mignola has ever written, but a lot of care was put into this. It was a blast to read, and the old ‘me’ loved the wrestling and luchadores involved. What makes this a great comic is Richard Corben’s art. He has slowly made himself as one of the premire artists in the industry. Nothing against all the greats (including Mignola himself) but I would kill to have Corben stay as a full time artist for anything Hellboy related. He’s just that damn good. You missed out on one hell of a one-shot if you didn’t pick this up.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Apparently Mignola already has another Hellboy tale lined up for Corbs. A mini or one-shot, I don’t know. Buts still, more Corbs is a comin’! Good times.
