After a sensational issue that saw magicdom’s most eligible bachelor finally get married, I’m a bit disappointed by this one-shot follow up.  We find our intrepid bastard returning from his honeymoon only to find that he is being kicked out of his flat.  What follows is a story filled with ancient black magic, and John being a royal prig to the guy kicking him out.  The problem I have is two fold.  The first is that I didn’t quite catch the connection that the ancient black magic sub plot had with the current story.  Was the character from the story in the past the same one in the present?  If not, then how do they connect?  My second problem stems from the fact that while John is an insufferable asshole, I found his method of dealing with the situation to be a bit…overzealous.  I never quite picked up on why he wanted to do such a dastardly thing to the guy buying his building.  It just seemed that he was doing it just to do it.  I’ve always found Constantine to be the type of guy that gives people what they deserve.  For me, Milligan just didn’t sell it enough for me to root for John’s methods.  The final page, by the way, was pretty great as many married men often feel the way John does.  It made me smile.  Bisley’s art is really gorgeous in this book.  He draws a great moody book, but his drawings also have an edge to them that gives him a wholly unique look.  I’ve always enjoyed his Hellblazer work, and this issue doesn’t disappoint despite some oddly angled and shaped faces.
