Maybe I'm getting old, but I found this to be overly dark and lurid -- and I usually love that kind of stuff. It seemed like Morrison was trying to channel Tarentino in the dialogue, feel of the characters but without reason or need. The twist that there is a cartoon animal in this dark world fell flat for me too.
The art was decent, like most of Robertson's work.

I’m hoping the wheels come off in the next issue and the world of Happy is completely screwy, and it doesn’t end up being a fantasy cooked up in the mind of a man undergoing horrific torture, not unlike the end of the movie Brazil. This was far more set up than I was expecting. I still love Robertson’s artwork, though.
Ye totally agree with you. I don’t really fall for this type of hyper-masculine storytelling but because it’s Morrison I’m expecting the unexpected.
