First, this was probably the hardest week I’ve had in a while for picking a PotW.  Nothing I read was bad, just various levels of good.  Detective was great, Spider-Man was great, Mighty Avengers finally got a point and a place in the world, New Avengers showed what Bendis does best (character interaction), and X-Force was X-Force.  Even Astonishing wasn’t a total pile.  So why did Guardians get to be my PotW?

It.  Was.  So.  FUN!

Starting off with a bar fight (at a bar called Starlins, by the way, which is just the start of the fun) that ties into War of Kings, we get non-stop action, the return of the great confessionals (including one with Groot), the whole team together again following their various seperate adventures and the interaction that goes along with that, their entrance into the War (and it ties into their mission statement), and the total deflation of Star-Lord by a single word-“No.”  Oh, and a joke told psychicly that only Moondragon, Mantis, and Cosmo laugh at.  And even though this was drawn by Brad Walker rather than Paul Pelletier, it didn’t matter- Walker’s a fine fill-in for now.  The way he drew Cosmo was so cute!

The only complaint I have, and it’s a nit-pick, was Ch’od’s dialogue.  I don’t quite think Abnett and Lanning captured his unique patterns.  But if that’s all that’s wrong, I’ll live.

If you’ve been wanting to get into this book, buy issue 13.  You won’t be lost, as it is the start of a new arc, and it will show you everything that is good about this book.

  1. I personally prefer Walkers pencils on this book. The only thing that he doesn’t do better than Pelletier is Rocket Raccoon. I love Pelletier’s Rocket Racoon cause it has such personality. Walker’s just looks like a regular animal with clothes on
