As a child of the 80’s, I was practically raised on Mad Magazine (it was all my parents could afford to feed me).  One of my favorite parts were Sergio  Aragones’s marginal sketches.  Loved them.  I even have a couple of digest sized trades of his Mad work.  But, until now, I’d never read his Groo.

It’s not for me.  Bumbling protagonists appeal to me.  Page after page of thinly veiled political statements presented as fun comics do not.  Even if I agree with the statements being made.  But if you’re into easy political satire that doesn’t bother to approach any stands with any sort of debt.  The kind of satire that says “I am rich, and we rich people are greedy for greed’s sake.” then this is the comic for you.  I hope you enjoy it.  But no so much that you feel the need to bring it up in conversation with me.

Story: 1 - Poor
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. If thinly veiled political statements presented as fun comics are not for you, then what were you doing reading Mad?

  2. I don’t read Mad anymore.  Haven’t since I was about twelve.
