Man, this book was the surprise of the month for me, and a good example of DC’s digital previews working successfully. I had no intention of buying the book at all. Recent years left me burned out on Green Lantern, especially the coloured lanterns, and Kyle Rayner had been so mishandled that I’d grown tired of reading his adventures.

Something about this works though. Kyle is taken back to the elements that made him a favourite among many readers. He seems to actually enjoy being a super hero. Free from bravado and stoicism, he seems to have fun with it. It sets him up as a solid centrepiece for this book going forward.

Of course, what convinced me to check out the book at all was Tyler Kirkham’s art. I’ve seen it cop some flack elsewhere, so I guess it’s not for everyone, but I found it to be dynamic and entertaining. But most importantly it conveyed the sense of fun. And that’s what made this book such a surprise for me. Fun.
