This issue finally proves my theory is wrong. Patrick Gleason can do great pencils more then one issue straight.

I was so worried that the pencils in this comic was going to be medicore. Cause the pattern ususally is: #33 good pencils, #34 bad pencils, #35 a work of art, and I thought this issue would be medicore at best. Here thought Gleason proves me wrong. Great pacing in this issue, just like the last. His character designs are on the money in every panel. Sinestro looks the same on every page; instead of having plastic surgery and looking different like Gleason could’ve done. The battles in this were also really good. Not the best thought; it’s not fluid or in transition. It’s more static or ‘poster’ like where we see the coolest parts of the fight. Finally his Sodam Yat is barely off model, a character he usually not keen on keeping on model.

It’s safe to say that Tomasi is at the point of Geoff Johns on this title. Sure he might have to follow a design for Johns in Blackest Night territory, but he brings much more depth in his characters. While Johns is trying to force ‘hope’ onto Hal Jordan, Tomasi brings all the characterization to Sodam, or Soranik, or even Sinestro. Again the pacing of this issue is good; considering he’s got three plot points here. The stuff with Sinestro/Soranik is more talking heads then anything else but I like how Tomasi is trying to explain why Sinestro has never killed Soranik to get his planet back. The jailbreak has those ‘poster’ moments, where nothing is really gained but just showing some cool moments. Finally there’s Mongul…..*sighs* Oh Mongul how much I adore you…

The quality of this title almost outmatches the quality of the regular Green Lantern series. It has a ton of characters to deal with, but Tomasi is able to juggle all of the plot points. GLC moves at a brisk pace but still allows to settle in and explore the characters purposes. Even though we’re *STILL* not close enough to Blackest Night….this title makes up for being a fun space opera. If Gleason can keep his art at this level of quality; then it’s only a matter of time before the Corps is better then the regular GL title.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
