What I love about this series in general is the set ups. Hear me out on this, Green Lantern Corps for all intended purposes is a set up series. Take in point with ‘The Blackest Night’ event coming up soon. Ever since the Sinestro War has ended the GLC has been introduced to countless new members, aliens, and enemies they will face. A lot of them will most likely be key players in the event like Mongul, Black Mercy, Star Shappires, and in this issue the Green Lantern Salaak.

Talking to the dead is clearly going be a huge factor with the Black Lanterns….So obviously we need to have a guy who can go 1 on 1 with them Haley Joel Osment style. But overall this little 2 part story was pretty good in it’s own right. Those new Yellow Lanterns freak me the hell out, they look like those big aliens from the Resistance PS3 game. As always there is good humor and good storytelling by Tomasi. He really is a man you gotta admire, years ago he was just a lonely editor…now he’s publishing (most likely) the most underrated series in DC.

The next story in GLC looks pretty promising, as we will get introduced to yet another Lantern color. If you want a good alien/space story in your comics this, Nova, and Guardians of the Galaxy are the places you need to go.

  1. I really enjoyed this issue, and have enjoyed this series a lot post Sinestro War.  Nice review.

  2. Solid review (shocker).

    Between this and Green Lantern the build toward Blackest Night is getting exciting.

    Spoilers->

    Any idea what is going on with Kyle’s drawings in the last few issues?  Anyone else very interested in seeing what Saraak (he is the one who hears the dead, not Salaak) sees when he visits the good, old Antimonitor?

  3. @stulach~  I thought Kyle was drawing the bar…is this not so?  Your question makes me think otherwise.  I’ll have to take a look and post again.

  4. @Neb – If you look closely it looks like he is drawing the green lantern symbol being melted.  In the previous issue he drew something else that Guy pulled out of the trash.  I don’t remember what it was, but I think it was ominous.

    I wonder what kind of role he might play in the coming series and if we might see him in a different color costume.

  5. @stulach & Neb –

    In #27 the drawing was of a lantern (difficult to say which) whose crotch/pelvis was exploding (!).

    In #28 the drawing was of the lantern symbol with a slimy eyeball in the center.

  6. @aerodynamics~  Thanks!  Is this a sign that Kyle is going crazy?  Is this planting things for "Blackest Night?"  Let the speculation begin!
