Tired of epic Green Lantern "event" crossover stories? Miss the days of GLs as space cops? Well, Tomasi, Pasarin, and Hanna have the cure for what ails you. This book is great for newcommers and veterans alike.

It seems like Tomasi is overshadowed by Johns a lot, but this gives him a chance to breathe again and his skill is evident. You can tell he knows Guy and John inside and out, as their characterizations are spot on. I thought John was a little heavy-handed in dealing with the builders, but it was true to form for him. Guy was still cocky and confident but more likeable - a wise choice for new-reader appeal.

The story introduces an intriguing mystery for them to investigate, and this is a cop buddy film done right. I did not expect them both to be having difficulty fitting in on Earth after all the craziness of the last few years. I though Guy would be the sad sack and John would be successful, but I think it made better sense this way. It united them as friends and GLs.

I really liked how Tomasi did the exposition as Guy waited for a job interview. At first, I thought it was a group of kids pestering Guy with questions and requests to see the ring in action, given the school setting. But having it be all the other job applicants behaving like giddy little kids around a hero or sports star was really a nice touch of humor I was not expecting.

Pasarin and Hanna did a great job on the art as well. There is a great level of detail in this book, more than you usually see in a monthly, but it never feels overwhelming or cluttered. The splash page of Oa was magnificent, and action is depicted well. A great looking book overall.
