Brightest Day has found me bored to tears with all things Lantern.  It just didn’t seem like any of the creative teams were having as much fun with the characters as Johns and Tomasi had during the Sinestro Corps War, and the prelude to Blackest Night.  Apart from a great Dex-Star origin, I felt myself getting progressively more disconnected to the different colored lanterns.  So I nearly didn’t pick this issue up.

Then I saw that this was a Larfleeze issue.  I feel that Larfleeze is a very easy character to fuck up.  The line between what makes him funny, and what makes him threatening is pubic hair thin.  Johns chooses to use him mainly for humor here, and it works well.

Doug Mahnke’s Hector Hammond looks like the bastard child of Alfred Pennyworth and Sinestro, but otherwise, I’m getting used to the way he draws Hal.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
