One of my favorite issues of the Green Lantern series is #43 from back in 2010, a Blackest Night prologue, where we shown the fucked up origin of Black Hand. It is one of Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke’s finest hours and a truly unsettling read.

Well, that issue rings heavy here in Green Lantern #11 (and I would say to you that if you haven’t read issue #43 yet, go out and get it before reading #11), and after months of “Nok” and rainbow rings galore, this issue is a welcome dark storm cloud in the horizon.

Johns may be rehashing his Blackest Night epic here a bit, but that’s okay – that story was fantastic and if you are going to go back to the well for ideas, Blackest Night is a good one to go to.

And it’s funny, whenever Black Hand shows up, Doug Mahnke’s art gets even better – which is really saying something.

This is the best issue so far of the New 52 Green Lantern. It’s also a perfect time to jump on if you are new to the GL universe. I gotta feeling this is the ground floor for an awesome run, so hop on in. You don’t want to get left behind do you?

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
