I jumped on Lemire’s Green Arrow this week after being intrigued by Sorrentino’s art in the comic shop for months.
I liked this story so much I’m a little ticked it will be interrupted by villain’s month. I’m usually not a fan of returning to a character’s origin for a new story, but, maybe because I’m not too familiar with Green Arrow, I liked the love story between Shado and Robert Queen, Robert’s history with Lacroix, and even the mythology of the “Outsiders” and the quest for THE green arrow.
As for the art, I’m conflicted. Some things are beautiful. The snowy mountains, the panel layouts, the spiral motifs, and the genius colors from Maiolo are all in the plus column, but the jagged shading and washed out facial features are sometimes hard to look at and take me out of the story. At least I can say it is better than the metallic appearance of gradient shading that is in many comics, and I’m happy whenever there is a unique look to a DC book.
I was happy to turn the page and see the sleek silhouette flashback, but disappointed to find out that it comprised fifty percent of the book.
Overall, Lemire’s A writing alongside interesting art puts this on my pull list for the coming months.
Art: 3 - Good
I agree with you, but I add two boiled eggs. Because I am smelling that the best comic of DC is being cocked in Green Arrow.
I am not sure, but it sounds like the ‘Anatomy lesson’ of Swamp thing . This character is going from 0 to 100. Like when Alec Holland discovered THE GREEN.
I admire Alan Moore. I think Lemiere is becoming better and better.
I worship Steve Bissette, and John Totleben . I think Sorrentino is becoming better and better.
Don’t you guys, people out the see it coming??
