No they didn't!!! I can't believe I just saw the prime minister and another Japanese government official claim that they didn't know who or what Godzilla is and/or was. I can see why the writer would wanna do somewhat of a reboot, but at least most modern Godzilla movies lay claim that a very similar beast rocked Tokyo back in the mid-1950s, even if they erase ALL of the other movie's worth of continuity. I thought this was going to do something like that direction, not have us believe that this is Godzilla's first ever appearance decades after the so called nuclear age.
Other then that, we have a decent looking Godzilla experience here. It's always fun to see the true king of the monster wreak havoc in Tokyo, but don't expect to get much more out of this first installment. There is no origin here. Godzilla just shows up. There isn't much character development here. I have a feeling that some of the people in these here panels will show up in the coming issues, so a little more introduction could have sufficed, but I guess the creators decided to just draw us in with some good old action and destruction to start this series off leaving most of the story elements for next time? It sure seems that way.
The comic book barely even has any words. I read the whole thing in four minutes flat. #1 of Kingdom Of Monsters is definitely a comic that focuses on the art work to get the job done. The great looking artwork that it is!! I just hope to get more story out of this series in the future, great start though...
President Obama also makes an appearance.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

I agree that the story shoulda been a return of Godzilla rather than a reboot, was enjoyable nonetheless.
