Robotic Actor’s Nightmare
Gigantic (#1) delivers in a GIGANTIC way. First off very crisp and interesting art. I’ll give credit to Rick Remender and/or Eric Nguyen for delightful Alien concepts, especially the two couch potatoes?, but must all advanced alien lifeforms be bipeds!?!?! Maybe I’m crazy but I’m never surprised to see that most advanced alien’s that are depicted in books, movies, and other media forms walk around on two legs.
The bipedal issue aside, this is a fantastic book that mixes a few older concepts with an interesting take, great writing and alluring art. The shared frames containing our Gigantic hero?robot?actor? and the mass hysteria of the streets was executed superbly. The dialogue of the crowd was especially good at setting the atmosphere and deepening the experience.
My favorite page and exchange has to be the last page where you leave the book with a sense of Remender’s insight, and hopefully his sense of humor. Many questions are raised, hinting at more than enough story and explanation for the next four books, lets just hope that book 2 lives up to the imaginitive expectations which book 1 instilled.
