“Now this is what I’m talking about!”, I type quickly on this laptop. “That’s the type of Flash comic I want to read after this issue”. The more I type this review out, the more I’m falling in love with this series. Don’t get me wrong, the first issue for Flash was solid. However, I still felt there was a bit uneven writing when it comes to introducing characters and the general plotline. For this issue? None of that.

No my friends, this issue was a ball from the first page to the last. The first half of the book (which could be the trend each issue), has a great fight sequence. Then it goes on to my favorite moment this week with Flash saving people from a building to actually learning how to build it again. Had me laughing a lot and it was a great idea by Johns in general. When we get to the ‘slower’ parts of the issue, I was actually enthralled on what was going on. Last issue seemed to suffer from a bit of exposition and general boredom. Here, the scenes with Iris and the CCPD was fun to read. Although the idea of a guy not liking Barry because he cares too much about his job is a bit cliche. How many times have we’ve seen that in any medium involving cops?

Then my mouth is just drooling over the Manapul art. Praise should be going to the colorist as well. Brian Buccellato just makes this issue look even more gorgeous (if that’s even possible) for Manapul’s pencils. The issue is bright, colorful, and he makes the Flash speed effects look all the more cooler. Manapul’s layouts are great, his pacing is terrific, and overall all the character look amazing. I’ve never fallen in love with an artist so quickly like Manapul. I hope he stays with this series forever.

Again the first issue was great, but it’s amazing to see how much improved this second issue is. Great little moments with Flash, and a big mystery is swirling around Barry Allen. Add in amazing work by Manapul and Buccellato; and you got yourself one gorgeous looking book. I’ll admit I never had much of a man-crush on the Flash and his series like a lot of others. Now I’m starting to see why Flash comics can be so damn fun to read when they’re doing right.
