I’ve pretty publicly hated the main book of Final Crisis.  Too much happening, not enough time to deal with it.  It was certainly epic, but epic doesn’t translate to good.

While I found the first six issues to be complete clusterfucks, as a stand alone issue this one was not bad.  Sounds like feint praise, but after how negative I’ve felt about all the Grant Morrison titles this past year, I was relieved to find that this issue wasn’t awful.  It felt like a really good recap of an awesome story.  While the previous issues have felt like confusing recaps of mediocre stories.

I don’t think this series is worthy of either the praise or the vitriol it’s receiving.  I think it’s just a too condensed telling of a story which could have been great.  I wish someone had given Morrison fifty issues or so to make this as vast it so desperately wanted to be.  but as it is, ehhhh, I’m glad it’s over, and that it didn’t totally suck in the end.  Ok, I guess that was feint praise, after all.

Story: 3 - Good

  1. "I wish someone had given Morrison fifty issues or so to make this as vast it so desperately wanted to be. "

That’s probably true. Given an "all-star" type of book G-Mo would’ve rocked everyone’s socks.

  2. All-star tied into this.  Much smoothlier (I know, it’s not a word) than R.I.P.
