There are obscure characters. Then there are OBSCURE characters.

Three of the Four characters used in Fin Fang Four, are some of the most bizarre and least used characters in all of Marvel history. At least in the modern age, I have seen very little of these guys. I mean I know who Fin Fang Foom is; he’s a badass space dragon. But Elektro, Gorgilla, and Googam (who is the son of Goom; another character I know nothing about)? No idea who any of them are.

This huge one-shot, however, made me care about the ‘team’ so much….I want to see an ongoing of this in the worst way. Roger Langridge is a writer who knows who to write funny stories. Look at the Muppet series he’s doing right now; pure entertainment. Here he gives us a look into each life of the ‘team’….I use the word team loosely cause they all hate eachother. Since this is like an anthology of sorts; there are good stories and bad. However, this is one of the few anthologies where each story if very good. There may be an instance where one isnt as good as the other; but none of them are bad. The highlights are the adventures of Gorgilla saving Abraham Lincoln and Elektro being mistaken for….Electro. It’s tough to discribe why each story is funny. Some jokes are satrical, some jokes are slapstick, there are visual jokes; it’s a hodgepodge of entertainment.

If someone sees the price tag of this, I know they are going to freak out. ‘Five bucks for a single comic? Screw that!’ I’m sure that was the thinking of a lot of people who saw this at their LCS. But Langridge wrote a very entertaining series of stories involving some very bizarre characters. I forgot to mention that Langridge does the art for this. Which is very well done; and unlike the Muppet comic he does, everything is on model and very colorful. So you got a creator who does both art and story; an anthology of great to good stories; and just someone who is just trying to keep these characters alive. I hope in the future we see Langridge, or just someone in general, try and do this ‘team’ book again. Surprisingly fun book, I’m gald I gave it a second chance.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
