FF #7 concludes Black Bolt’s origin and return story.

The story is sparse and by the end Hickman leaves a lot of high concepts on the table which, if you’ve been with him since he started writing Fantastic Four this is nothing new – it’s still wildly imaginative and fun to read but the newness has faded some.

Art wise Tocchini captures the space odyssey vibe channeling Moebius and Jon J. Muth. He has a few great panels but also some puzzlers.

What’s strange about this run is (as evidenced on the boards here for this issue and the ones before it) readers seem suspicious of whether Hickman’s going to deliver the goods. At times I find myself included in this group but something tells me this run is going to be revered.

If you’re trade-waiting you’re in store for something special. If you’re looking to jump on with this issue I’d advise waiting another month.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 3 - Good

  1. I think this is a fair review.  This issue was marginally better than the last issue.  I would give both story and art 2.5 if I could.
