Not a good ending to the event (then again there are dozens of epilogue books out there now, so is it really an ending?). Everything just kinda...happened. Oh, we have super magic weapons now, (btw what were Wolverine's weapons and when/how did he put them on?) and what do you know they can kill the bad guys! Paper beats rock. The ludicrously powerful guys genociding the planet all crumble rather anti-climactically, and Thor just dies well...because...(I mean he DID fall down and go boom after all *nod*). And of course the LOTR style multi-ending. That said, looking back on the summer of comics, this was a fairly enjoyable event OVERALL. Having kept up with several tie-ins, the story worked much better than what most people were saying. If you're interested look up Journey Into Mystery, Avengers Academy, Invincible Ironman, and Uncanny Xmen for some depth to flesh out the story. Sometimes its all about the journey instead of the destination, because in the end, is there EVER a destination when it comes to comics?
